Abstract

Iron nutrition anemia is the most common anemia in Indonesia. The results of the 2013 Riskesdas showed that 22.7% of girls experienced iron nutritional anemia. This shows that iron nutritional anemia in adolescents is still a nutritional problem in Indonesia because of the percentage> 20%. Young women are one of the groups that are prone to suffer from iron nutritional anemia because of the high iron requirements for growth and increased menstrual loss. In addition, young women are usually very concerned about body shape, so many limit food consumption and many restrictions on food. If the food intake is lacking then a lot of iron reserves are broken down to meet the needs. This condition can accelerate iron malnutrition. Iron anemia among adolescents if not handled properly will continue into adulthood and contribute greatly to maternal mortality, premature babies, and babies with low birth weight. In addition, iron nutrition anemia can cause fatigue, decreased learning concentration so that learning achievement is low and can reduce work productivity. In 2013 Riskesdas, Banyumas Regency ranked as the third highest Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in Indonesia with an MMR of 124.1 mothers per 100,000 live births with the main cause of bleeding due to anemia. Until now iron nutritional anemia in adolescents has not received serious attention from the Banyumas District Health Office, handling anemia is more emphasized in pregnant women with the provision of Fe tablets whereas according to WHO 2001 to reduce the risk of death in childbirth, treatment of anemia must be done as early as possible before the teenager experiences pregnancy. Considering the unfavorable consequences, iron handling anemia needs serious attention and treatment.
