Abstract

Nanocellulose has been extracted from cassava skin with the aim of studying the properties of the nanocellulose produced. Nanocellulose is obtained through the acid method. Nanocellulose extraction method with acid treatment on cassava peel can produce nanocellulose with a diameter of ± 600 nm (20 minutes acid treatment) and diameter ± 33 nm (40 minutes acid treatment). The stability of the nanocellulose suspension resulting from acid treatment of 40 minutes was higher (- 8.16 mV) compared to the treatment of 20 minutes (-5.39 mV). Increasing the duration of acid treatment can increase the crystallinity of nanocellulose.

Key words: nanocellulose, cassava skin, acid method
